Voice Search Ramping Up for 2022 Creating Opportunity for SEO

There was once a time when seeing someone speak into a device to find out information on a specific subject meant you were watching an episode of Dick Tracey or some such fantasy. However, in the time that is the new “Roaring 20s,” it is getting more and more commonplace to see everyday people speak into their phones, tablets, or even watches and asking questions…and they’re getting answers too.

Voice search is becoming a way of life as it is incredibly easy and getting more and more efficient. With the improvement of devices to be able to hear exactly what people want, the adoption of voice searches is getting to the point of market saturation. In fact, in 2018, Adobe suggested that nearly 48% of people with smart devices used voice search regularly and other research showed a whopping 76% of those searches were used to locate a business-related answer. That is an opportunity in waiting for SEO, as it is easy to extrapolate the ramping up of these percentages as the years go by.

Basically, there are two ways in which voice searches work. The first is simply talking into the device as though you were typing. So, the user would simply talk their query instead of typing it. Faster for them, but still important for SEO marketers to make sure all those keywords and phrases that are being spoken are leading to specific sites. The other way in which voice searches work is with some type of assistants like Siri or Alexa. These virtual assistants will most often pull information from third-party sites. So while it is a bit more of a challenge to rank higher in this method, it is still possible to be aware of what is being written in website content to ensure sites being promoted are found in some way, even if it is only by answering a question via a blog or article.

The bottom line is voice searches are ramping up with each passing year. The trust of the search returns is growing, as is the technology, and that means an easier way for an online consumer to find what they are after. Just as texting started off slow and has now all but replaced traditional phone conversation, so too does voice searching have the potential to just about completely replace type searching. This means 2022 and beyond will start a new trend that will only increase as time goes on, making proper SEO, now with voice searching in mind, a vital part of any marketing campaign.
